The Iota Sigma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was the first African American sorority to be chartered on the Campus of the University of Kentucky on May 9th, 1975. Founded in 1908, on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is the first Greek-Letter organization established by African-American college-trained women. Since our chartering, Iota Sigma continues to uphold the legacy that Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was founded upon. Chartered on the campus of the University of Kentucky, the Iota Sigma Chapter is at the forefront of providing service to all mankind to the Lexington, Kentucky area, the United States, and abroad. We strive to provide programs, scholarship and to aid to address the needs of our community.
